One Week Later

Saturday 21 March:

5 Miles 47:29 Felt good. Not having any deadline pressure definiteley makes a difference.

Not as bad as I thought

Sunday 15th March:
Well got round ok. My right leg was sore at a few points, but I slowed down and carried on running. Whether the shorts made any difference or not, or was it running with a crowd, I don't know. I got round without stopping other than for drinks. So I am pretty pleased.
Final time to be confirmed, but 02:10:30 I think. I actually forgot to stop my watched when I crossed the line!
Evening update 02:10:25 was my actual time. Very pleased with that.

Half Marathon Day!

Sunday 15th March:
Well, this is it then. I drove the children around the race route in the car yesterday. It does seem quite a long way! Although it is only a local race and I have no ambition other than to finish within 3 hours (before the roads re-open) I have been a little nervous the last day or so.
The main concern is not to pull a muscle and therefore not finish, or just to limp home. This would be very dissapointing.
Anyway, time for breakfast and then to sort out my chip timer and other race items. Next post will be post race. Whatever happens :-)

Two days to go!

Friday 13th March:
3 miles 30:10 Felt ok. I meant to do this last run yesterday or the day before, but I have been busy both at work, and at home. I am suddenly worried that I haven't done enough this last two weeks. But I think that it is just paranoia setting in.
I have also been panic buying on the Internet. I now have a pair of "compression" shorts that are meant to help avoid groin and hamstring strains, as well as aid recovery. I have to say that seems to be a lot to expect from a pair of skimpy undershorts. Still I may need all the help I can get!

Fund raising has been worthwhile. I have been promised over £200 which is pretty good.

The last week's training

Monday 9th March:
3 Miles 29:24 Felt ok. Having looked at a few different training schedules covering the last days before the race, I have decided to back off. I am more likely to get tired out than benefit from the extra mileage. It is too late now!

Sponsorship

Friday 6th March:
5 miles 50:05 Felt ok other than my right leg feeling worryingly sore again after just 3 miles or so. There is not much more that I can do now though. Next Sunday I am running!

Having thought about it a bit too much. I have emailed a few people at work and asked for sponsorship to raise money for the Berkshire Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre. I work with somebody who ran the Reading Half Marathon about five years ago, but she came down with MS and now can't run half marathons. She suggested the local centre. Hopefully it will help in some way.

Just keep running!

Tuesday 4th March:
3 miles 28:31 Felt good. Looking at my times this is my fastest 3 mile time. So the last couple of months training has reduced my time taken to run 3 miles by.....(drum roll).....about 1m 20s! About 1 minute of that is probably achieved by fewer rest stops. Still at least it is heading in the right direction.

Another 10!

Sunday 1st March:
10 miles 1:52. My right leg felt really sore after about 8-9 miles. It even hurt when I stopped to stretch! I am now cutting down the mileage before the race. I will try and stretch every day. My aim is to run the first 8 to 9 miles, then walk and jog the rest. Should be ok.
